Ric Flair vs Shawn Michaels is very likely the most emotional match in WrestleMania history. On the night of WrestleMania 24, Ric Flair would wrestle his last-ever match and chose the best possible opponent. He put it all on the line but the crowd didn’t want to see The Nature Boy retire.
It was a pure display of heart and guts from the legendary 16-time World Champion but his age had caught up and Shawn Michaels knew that he had to mercifully end his career. He uttered the words “I’m sorry, I love you” before hitting a Sweet Chin Music on Ric Flair and pinning him. Even while being pinned, Ric Flair couldn’t hold back his tears as he knew it was the end.
Sometimes it’s better to choose to ignore his later TNA run because, in many ways, this was one of the great WrestleMania moments.
