Trish Stratus, still within her debut year of the company had found herself in an important spot. She was Vince McMahon‘s mistress and used as an instrument to torture his wife, Linda McMahon, who was in a wheelchair. Stephanie McMahon couldn’t stand the thought of Trish Stratus.
They would face off in a high-profile match at No Way Out, a month before WrestleMania X7. Despite Stratus and Stephanie McMahon’s lack of experience, they put on a surprisingly good match which the crowd was really invested in. They told a great story and performed a series of good spots to engage the crowd.
Ultimately, William Regal would be the difference maker as his run in would see him hit the Regal Cutter on Stratus, allowing Stephanie to get the pin.
