Lita had been out of action for 17-months due to a devastating crack to her vertebrae. One episode of RAW in 2003 saw Trish Stratus take on Gail Kim & Molly Holly in a handicap match. Stratus loss and suffered a post-match beatdown from the two, until Lita made a triumphant return to save Stratus.
She would unite with her old rival to take on Kim & Holly at Unforgiven, where Lita proved that she hadn’t missed a beat. Kim & Holly isolated Stratus throughout the match, preventing her from tagging Lita in. When Lita received the hot tag, the crowd exploded. She would end up pinning then-Women’s Champion Molly Holly, putting her in the title picture right away.
