Looking Like A Superstar
New entrances can mean so much. Jinder Mahal gets it tonight, as the lights are all out and a graphic slowly creeps from under his feet. It reveals his logo and his graphics appear when he raises the championship. Damn, this was impressive and made him feel like a damn star. When Mahal came out to face Mojo Rawley, it seemed like WWE’s way of desperately trying to get the fans to invest in Rawley. Unfortunately, a three minute match that felt like a WWE Superstars Match (Thank you, Bryan) did no good for either of these guys. I want Mahal to face guys that are at the top, not in the middle or near the bottom.
Champions should be more important on the booking of this show and it felt like Mahal being placed at the 9pm hour was the fourth most important part of the show. Another opponent would have made this feel different. Luckily, Mahal looks and talks like a champion, but has not been booked like one in the eyes of the WWE Universe.
Tag Teams Spotlighted on Smackdown Live
There is no need to talk about the 8 minute match that saw The New Day defeat The Colons. I do want to spotlight how hilarious “The Fashion Files” are, as well as The Uso’s newfound ability to cut a great heel promo. Both keep getting better and better, feeling like teams with refreshing energy and a new focus on being different from what we knew them as before. We remember The Usos’ vs. The New Day and Wyatt Family a few years ago, but this is a focused, intense and intelligent tag team that is thriving with a brand new gimmick. No more dancing and face paint. They are all about business and it is a perfect fit.
The best part about the segments involving these three tag teams was Fandango’s one liner “Big E… if that is even your real initial.” Something so logical and funny like that is why I can get into giving Breezango more time backstage and the opportunity to fight for the titles once again. These three teams are flowing and mixing very well together. They have not given us amazing matches in the ring, but they are entertaining as all hell.
