Drew McIntyre vs. Wesley Blake
Wesley Blake vs. Drew McIntyre was the main event on NXT this week. From the very beginning, both men slugged it out. Drew hit some nice elbow shots and then a chop from the top rope. He was in full control, but Blake battled back. He hit a big clotheslines and then locked in a Crossface. Drew, at 6 foot and 6 inches, got to his feet and scooped him up for a slam. Blake got caught and then hit with a massive flapjack for a two count. Drew, stuck on the ropes upside down, was able to grab him by the neck and toss him off the top. He set his prey up, but Blake ducked and then got slugged in the head. Drew connected with the Claymore Kick and picked up the win.
A really good main event tonight between both men, with McIntyre getting a lot of his excellent offense in. Blake should be credited for his efforts too, a guy that should be utilized a lot more on NXT. A former tag team champion, Blake sells so well and is very impressive when it comes to timing. He showed that tonight against a guy that is a rare athlete.
I have always been a fan of Drew McIntyre and tonight was his best match since returning. He has added plenty of athleticism in his game and continues to show moves that he has picked up since leaving WWE. Do we think he is next for Bobby Roode?
The best part about this is that NXT has 3 months to build their matches for NXT Takeover in Brooklyn. I would not hate the idea of a multi-person match for Bobby Roode, as I see McIntyre, Ohno and Black three big names to fight him. Also, you can still make a case for Hideo Itami or Roderick Strong. At the end of the day, NXT has a lot of options and a lot of avenues to travel before Brooklyn.
