Who Will Be King of the Cruiserweights?
WrestleMania 33 will feature the first of the new Cruiserweight Championship. To say that Neville and Austin Aries are similar is an understatement. Both men competed in various promotions around the world and made a name for themselves before coming to WWE. Neville is an athletic freak, which is why gravity has forgotten him. Austin Aries is an athletic guy who can sell a bible to the devil. When the seeds were planted months ago about Austin Aries joining the Cruiserweight Division, I knew that this match would take place at “The Ultimate Thrill Ride.”
Thank the lord for this match. Since September, we have had four Cruiserweight Champions. TJ Perkins, Brian Kendrick, Rich Swann and Neville have held the title. We have also seen others try to make a name for themselves, including Cedric Alexander, Tony Nese, Mustafa Ali, Drew Gulak, Akira Tozawa and Jack Gallagher. What was the problem? None of these guys were established enough to the casual fan like Neville or Austin Aries were. Both of these guys had national television featuring their abilities on a weekly basis. They developed a following and a simple gimmick change for Neville catapulted him to new heights. He just needed the right guy to work with.
Austin Aries has been a blessing in disguise for this division. From his work on the mic and now his match at WrestleMania, Austin Aries is here to stay. The guy is so damn talented all around. TNA was a perfect beginning for him and now is the right time and situation for him to thrive in WWE. This match, hopefully, will also be on the main card and really remind us why we fell in love with tournaments like the Cruiserweight Classic on the WWE Network. This is a perfect pairing, like peanut butter and jelly. When the night is over, I still think that Neville retains.
