Isenberg Reacts: WWE Clash of Champions “No Finality in Any Feud”

Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks and Bayley

The Triple Threat match for the WWE Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions was extremely entertaining. I wanted to see how WWE would book all three women, expecting Bayley and Banks to work over Charlotte early and often. That was not the case, however, as the friendship between the two hottest heels is taking a backseat and dissolving from the picture. All three women fended for themselves and it would be a breathtaking moonsault from Charlotte on both women to make this more than just another match. After this, Bayley would hit Bayley to Belly, but Sasha Banks breaks up the count. Charlotte hits a big boot, which lands on Bayley and knocks Sasha Banks to the outside. Natural Selection and another boot ends the night.

Some pieces that needed to be applauded here are Charlotte and Dana Brooke playing the best heel characters possible. Dana got herself involved and was a big reason why Charlotte retains. There is no reason for Dana Brooke to turn on Charlotte yet. She would get lost easily in the mix and would not be used properly.

As for what is next, I expect similar planning. Sasha did not get pinned. Bayley did. Maybe WWE tries to split the four women (not away from each other completely) but give Bayley and Dana more of a feud to develop than Dana being Charlotte’s sidekick and Bayley being Sasha’s friend. Either way, all four of these women will continue to dominate the RAW roster and that is nothing but excellent news.

A New Champion Crowned

Roman Reigns and Rusev did battle at Clash of Champions for the WWE United States Championship. As much as I like both men, tonight was not their best outing. It was slow and methodical, but the mentality was more about Lana than anything else. She would get involved and pull the  leg from the referee when Roman Reigns was about to win. Instead of a disqualification, she would be banned from ringside. When this happened, an enraged Rusev went off with multiple kicks and then applying The Accolade. After struggling out of it, Roman Reigns hit a Spear and became your new United States Champion.

They were given plenty of time in the ring, but it never seemed to hit a boiling point like it did to main event RAW a few weeks back. The only big thing you will remember this by is the fact that Roman Reigns is the new champion. I just wonder how many more matches they will get, especially considering many of RAW’s feuds are going to be repeated in a month at Hell in a Cell.

When you book Roman Reigns, you boo a guy who has put in time to be better. You boo a guy that you think WWE has backed, but they have really eased up on pushing him. Just because he is United States Champion does NOT mean he is going to be “The Guy” still. If they still believed in him and forced him on the fans, he would not have been in the US title match. He would have main evented the night. I like this for him and for the championship. The title is a roller coaster, up and down, and this could be a long way up to something better and more meaningful in the future.
