Is Billie Kay Being Overlooked?
When you look at this division, and I have multiple times in the past month, you might overlook how good Billie Kay is becoming. She picks up a relatively easy win tonight, but there were pieces of her offense that are familiar. First, her stature looks similar to Charlotte, where much of her offense is developed from her lower body. The long legs and then strong mid section of Billie should not be overlooked. The gimmick is simple, for now, and she is going to have a bright future. This match tonight proved to me that SHE should be the heel in a feud with Asuka. There is not a real reason for Asuka to be booked as a heel right now. With Billie’s offense dictated around heel techniques, such as a Torture Rack and massive boots to the face, you can easily see that she should be next up. Liv Morgan is a great looking woman, but is she ready? NXT could be overlooking one of their next really good heel personas in the women’s division. With more time will come more opportunity. Develop more women right now than Asuka, please.
Cedric Alexander defeated Andrade Cien Almas
NXT featured the debut of WWE RAW cruiserweight Cedric Alexander. Results via WZ Live Coverage:
Alexander whips Almas into the ropes, but Almas catches himself in the ropes and poses for Alexander. Alexander charges Almas, but Almas tosses him to the outside. Almas kicks Alexander in the face before hitting a triangle corkscrew dives to the outside onto Alexander.
After a short break, Almas is working a rear chin lock. Alexander forces Almas into the corner. Alexander floors Almas with a chin breaker. Almas whips Alexander into the ropes, but Alexander hits him with a handspring head kick. Almas tumbles to the outside. Alexander dives over the top onto Almas with a topé con hilo. Alexander gets another near fall after a springboard clothesline. Almas rolls up Alexander in a schoolboy for a two count. As Alexander kicks out Almas picks him up for a powerbomb. After trading strikes, Almas miffs on a wheelbarrow. Alexander sets him on the top rope. Almas knocks Alexander off the top rope. Almas attempts a moonsault but Alexander rolls out of the way. Almas lands on his feet and gets a two count after a standing moonsault. Almas calls for the running knees in the corner. Before the strike can land, Alexander pops up and catches Almas with the Lumbar Check for the win!
I love how smooth this match was, how entertaining and how fast these guys worked. Even though Cien Almas picked up ANOTHER loss, it really does not hurt him much. He is not a guy that needs to be undefeated like Bobby Roode or Shinsuke Nakamura. Almas is a great competitor and a great talent in the ring, but could be booked like a more athletic Alberto Del Rio. They have similar abilities and it was shown tonight from Almas.
Cruiserweights in NXT will be very productive to get more exposure to the ones that might not necessarily be on RAW every single week. You have a platform for them where they thrived, so why taken them COMPLETELY off of said platform? Cedric Alexander is going to be a star, in due time. The guy is just too gifted to be overlooked, especially with a division that can thrive with him in it. A great main event on NXT tonight.
If I had to change one thing on this show, it would be this: The Tag Team Division needs more emphasis. Aside from The Revival and TM-61, who is REALLY ready to step up? They need to have this title on every single week, whether it is them cutting promos are competing in matches. They are the best, right? Book them the best.
