Bourbon Street never stopped chanting “Yes.” When you were in New Orleans, you knew what you were going to run into. Unlike the previous three years, WrestleMania was centralized in a city. The site of WrestleMania was in walking distance from the party atmosphere. I can remember every moment of that weekend and remember that it was one of the best weekends of my life.
Spritis on Bourbon, featured on Bar Rescue was our hub for parties, events and meet and greets. Matt Striker would join us for a Q and segment. At one point, Brad Bohannan from Spirits said that his bar was the most packed on a Saturday afternoon that he has seen in years. THAT made me feel good about what Justin, Brian and myself were doing. I can go on and on about the late night escapades, including Dameon Nelson, The Pope and myself walking around at 4am. I can tell you about the time that I met Frank The Clown, who was the nicest guy to chat with. I remember Justin Roberts big timing Gulish, Crawfish Boil with Matt Hardy, Meeting Blake MitchaMARK and others. I can remember what I wore, who I hugged (Frank and Maria Manzo, you delightful mix of Italian and Latin), the wonderful couple of Mr. and Mrs. McDonald (The food was amazing, BTW) and Jon Alba. The list goes on and on and I know I missed so many, but heading into Wrestlemania XXX Sunday night was going to be something special.
How about The Rock, Hulk Hogan and Stone Cold in the same ring to kick off the 30th anniversary? What a sight to see and what an incredible moment. After that, the next 35 minutes was occupied about the incredible story of Daniel Bryan. Thank you, CM Punk, for…”punking” out and taking your ball and going home. Because of this, Daniel Bryan stepped up and gave us two AMAZING performances and began and ended the night in spectacular fashion. The sea of chants were sending goosebumps down my spine. Yes, this was Daniel Bryan’s night. It takes more than two matches to make it one of the best WrestleMania shows of all-time.
History. The Streak. Broken. Brock Lesnar and The Undertaker gave us the most unforgettable moment in professional wrestling history. NOBODY expected this to happen, but it did. Brock Lesnar broke the streak, a streak that was two decades in the making. TALK ABOUT AN IMPACT. If he did not break it, the match might be forgettable. Instead, it will never be forgotten.
How about John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt? Yes, Bray should have won, but do not discredit the great performance both men put on together. They told a story, a story of overcoming demons and the young “face of fear” making a statement. It also gave us Cesaro picking up and tossing Big Show out of the ring. We saw the last of the Ultimare Warrior, The Shield’s quick work and AJ Lee dominating the rest of the roster. From top to bottom, the night brought made history in spectacular fashion.
The moments of WrestleMania XXX will live on forever. Did WrestleMania 27-29 do that? This may have been the best WrestleMania since X-7 in Texas.
