Isenberg Reacts: WWE Smackdown “Where Are We Going From Here?”

Building The League of Nations Back Up

wwe smackdown

It is no secret that The League of Nations has not been that impressive since being bunched together. Since their inception, Sheamus lost the world title and Alberto Del Rio lost and won and lost the United States Championship. Although these were the right decisions creatively, it still makes me wonder why put them together only to make them fail so early. Instead of trying to have them aim for the highest of heights, WWE is finally understanding what they are capable of. They are capable of bringing “main event” talent to the tag team division. With  The Uso’s (who they beat on Smackdown), The Lucha Dragons and The New Day, this is the only team that can say they have world champions to boot. I do think they can be successful together, but it will take time to build them back up. How? First, give Sheamus and Rusev a tag team championship run that begins at WrestleMania. Second, you must identify what you truly want from Alberto Del Rio and Barrett. If they are pieces to a bigger story, being telling that story. If you truly want Del Rio to get over, continue putting him in feuds with the likes of Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and others.

As for the WWE Tag Team Championships, WWE has The Dudley Boyz, The Uso’s, The New Day, The League of Nations and… Y2AJ. Again, there is no need for Jericho and Styles to team together and go for the gold. Why would they be put together when both men could be utilized in a much more important role, one that could feature Kevin Owens or even something for the United States Championship? Hopefully, Raw will tell us more but this confuses me.

Overall, Smackdown featured a great match between The League of Nations and The Uso’s, two teams that could really be a solid fixture for a division that has been up and down for the past handful of years.

Dolph Ziggler defeated The Miz

Another quick match between the two, with Dolph rolling up The Miz this time. I am not sure what is going on with these two guys. Two former world champions with absolutely no direction. Hopefully, this is a small feud in a bigger match. You can have these two feuding, with potentially Del Rio and Kalisto continuing their feud and another pair of guys battling which gives 6 men the opportunity to fight for the United States Championship at WrestleMania. Even though WWE already has a Hell in a Cell match, a Ladder Match would not be too much of “gimmick” matches. They need to do as much as possible, especially with a depleted roster, to make the card complete from top to bottom. Tonight’s match was nothing special, but I am holding out hope that something good comes out of this.
