Can R-Truth and Goldust Work?
On Smackdown, R-Truth picked up a victory over Social Outcast member Heath Slater. This was in part to the assist from Goldust. Can this really work, the pairing of R-Truth and Goldust? It all depends on what you think “work” is all about. Tag Team Champions? Unlikely. Can they be entertaining from time to time? Yes. I just am not interested in some slapstick comedy that tries too hard to be funny. Booker T and Goldust worked. R-Truth and Goldust will be too “kid friendly.” More than half of the time, this will not work
6 Man Main Event
The New Day begins the Unicorn Stampede. Kofi with a basement dropkick to Jericho. Woods plays Francesca 2 from the outside. Kofi rolls Jericho back into the ring. Kofi goes for the pin, but Jericho kicks out at two. Jericho tries to reach to his tag team partners, but Kofi blocks that attempt. Kofi with an armbar to Jericho. Jericho misses on a dropkick. Kofi tags in Woods. Woods with a basement dropkick to Jericho. Woods tags in Big E. Big E with a running splash to Jericho with Woods landing a leg drop at the same time. Big E goes for the pin attempt but Styles breaks the pin attempt. Big E gets Jericho in the Abdominal Stretch. Big E with a knee to the midsection of Jericho. Big E goes for the Big Ending, but Jericho counters with the enizguri. Kofi and Styles are tagged in. Styles with a forearm that sends Woods to the outside. Styles with a springboard moonsault transitioning into the neckbreaker, but Big E breaks the pin attempt. Henry runs through Big E. Kofi with the Trouble of Paradise to Henry. Jericho takes a Trouble to Paradise from Kofi. Styles sends Kofi to the outside. Woods rolls Styles for a two count. Woods with a forearm to Styles. Styles gets Woods in the Calf Crusher and Woods taps out.
I enjoyed a few things about this main event. You had the most entertaining group of guys carry the main event with their usual antics. You also had a spotlight on Jericho and Styles, two guys that have been so consistent over the past month in terms of storytelling and excellent in-ring execution. I still wonder if WWE wants them to tag together, because of their respect, or if they get the shot against a Kevin Owens at WrestleMania. The latter makes for more intriguing storylines and details for the next month.
