To be honest though, this road to WrestleMania feels like an unfinished highway with signs stating “Construction: scheduled to be completed by 3rd April 2016”. WWE have certainly had a rocky road in the past few months with regards to injuries and this has definitely created some concerns heading into the most popular time of year.
John Cena, Cesaro, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan, Nikki Bella, Sasha Banks and Sting are all out of action at the moment and some might never be returning. That means that alleged matches such as John Cena vs Undertaker and Triple H vs Seth Rollins can no longer take place on the grandest stage of them all.
The Rock has announced he is going to be at the event but WWE have been very shy about promoting what he’ll actually be doing. Allegedly, The Rock has insurance clauses which prevent him from competing in the ring. This is due to the fact that the last two matches he has had with WWE have both resulted in him being injured. On the last occasion this caused troubles with his Hercules film and the studio understandably wasn’t very happy.
Thankfully, WWE have been very smart in their booking of the Royal Rumble thus far. Instead of guaranteeing that the winner of the Rumble will main event WrestleMania, they have made it that the winner will be crowned WWE Champion.
This means that the WrestleMania main events aren’t set in stone and WWE can use the Fastlane PPV to try and give a solid structure to the card on 3rd April. By this stage, WWE will be hoping that key talent will either have made miracle recoveries or they will have done enough business to either bring talent to cover the cracks or will have an idea of what they can achieve with their current roster.
Because of all these injuries, rumours have been flying around that this Rumble will see an awful lot of surprises. These surprises have ranged from people like Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Sami Zayn moving up from NXT to Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement for one short run leading into WrestleMania.
With that being said, there is still some booked matches taking place this Sunday as well as the Rumble so let’s have a look at the full card:
