Isenberg Reacts: WWE Raw “Returns and Roman’s Royal Rumble”

The Return of Chris Jericho

wwe rawIt is that time of year where returns from former world champions occur. Next week, we get Brock Lesnar. This week, we got Chris Jericho who makes fun of The New Day. Jericho announces that he will be involved in the 2016 Royal Rumble match.

Well, I am not sure what to think. It seemed like San Antonio could have cared less that he was there, which sucks. I think Chris Jericho is such a transcending character in professional wrestling, but when he comes back every year it loses its luster. Especially when he comes back and loses so much, it does not make him like he should be. Yes, he should get younger talent over. The booking of those previous feuds just did not do it for me. I really want  him to succeed upon returns, but maybe his time has passed for that SURPRISE return. Nothing against him personally, but the booking of his return feuds need to be MUCH BETTER.

Big News To End Raw

The biggest news of the night, and possibly year, came after a really good physical bout between Roman Reigns and Sheamus. Vince McMahon could not screw over Roman Reigns and he retained the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This prompted Vince to announce that for the first time in 24 years, the WWE World Heavyweight Championship will be defended in the Royal Rumble match.

Interesting. I am not sure how I feel about this decision yet. I understand the point: try to get Roman Reigns over the moon over and make him pay for what he has done to Vince and The Authority. I feel it’s a bit forced, but they can go many ways here. First off, I do not think it makes sense if Reigns is NOT the first entrant.

You want to screw him? Make him number 1, plain and simple. Second the notion of Triple H winning the championship (as Blake Mitchamore on CSRWrestling.com mentioned) makes sense in a lot of ways. I agree that it could be great television and really help The Rock be implemented in a non-wrestling capacity. Family vs. Family. But, is Triple H being wasted as champion? Isn’t Roman Reigns already over? So, why should be drop it only to reclaim it two months later? I think it makes most sense either he wins or a wildcard does. If Triple H screws him, do it for someone else to step in. That match between Reigns and Triple H does not need to be for a championship, especially if The Rock is involved somehow.
