Where is This Going?
Paige and Becky Lynch faced off against Sasha Banks and Naomi in Divas tag team action. Becky and Naomi start off the match with Lynch hitting some uppercuts and a hip toss. Sasha gets tagged in and Becky tries to grab a few quick pins. Members of Team BAD get the upper hand and isolate Becky in their corner.
Finally, Becky hits a big boot and some more kicks to get the hot tag to Paige. She hits a few kicks and then knees to Sasha’s chest. Becky pulls Sasha to the floor and this distracts Paige enough to let Naomi roll her up and steal the win.
Later in the night, Nikki throws her “Bellabration” backstage, where it looks to be full of food and drinks but not people/ As the “party” goes on, PCB enters and Charlotte reminds her of their championship match on Sunday. She throws bottles around the room and then Adam Rose says her party is terrible and throws cake that accidentally hits Brie and Alicia. She storms off in anger.
First, the match was pretty good considering it was under 9 minutes and that it really focused on Becky getting the brunt of the offense. She is really good and a smooth operator inside the ring. I liked how Sasha and Naomi cut off half of the ring, which is what tag team wrestling needs to be about. At the end of the match, it is made clear that WWE wants to turn Paige heel. Not right now, but in the near future. WWE can really get a great feud out of a face Charlotte and a heel Paige. I expect this to happen on a bigger stage, but how will they try and utilize ALL of the other women? That is the trickiest part.
Nikki Bella may be the ONLY real heel in WWE right now. The lines are blurred for everyone else except her. As much as she gets bashed, I give her credit. She reminds me of The Miz leading into WrestleMania 27. She started off in WWE so bad and has risen to the top of her game. Improvements in the ring, developments of her character outside of the ring and a strong emphasis of being “her” makes her the best heel in the Divas Division. I expect this match at Night of Champions to be really competitive and possibly one of the best we have seen in the past few years.
I would have changed the Bellabration from backstage into the ring. You can get more intrigue, more heat and more importance in front of a live crowd. It could have been great and not just okay.
