Tick, tock. Tick, tock. Tick, tock.
That’s the countdown clock for AJ Lee’s days in WWE. They are numbered.
Not only did Mrs. Punk have the temerity to wed WWE’s Public Enemy No. 1, currently subject of a WWE-inveigled lawsuit, but she brazenly called out Stephanie McMahon for hypocritically trying to piggyback off Patricia Arquette’s feminist rant at the Oscars. Here’s AJ’s basic gist: WWE doesn’t do as Arquette suggests. So SHUT UP, Stephanie.
I think A.J.’s tweets were her playing a bonus round. Just being married to C.M. Punk had her nudged toward the exit.
AJ Lee said that Divas make “a fraction of the wages.” I don’t doubt that for a second. But I’d like to see some figures.
Paige said, in an interview, “We don’t really get to showcase what we do.” How can Paige say that after participating in a 30-second tag match where she never entered the ring? She got to be on TV, and pale. That should be good enough.
None of this should surprise anybody. Not from a company that does an anti-bullying campaign even as most of its storylines are based on bullying, and when bullying is common at all levels of administration and in the dressing room.
The storyline thing maybe can’t be helped. But the rest, well…it won’t be helped. The McMahons will do exactly as they please, and won’t listen to anyone.
Full credit to AJ Lee, and to Paige. They showed fortitude. But if you think you did the cause any good, you’re wrong. If you think you did yourselves any good, you’re even more wrong.
