WWE fired its head writer. Vince McMahon thus impacted last night’s RAW a bit more. As a result, we saw Vickie Guerrero get covered in puke.
Does anyone think that’s the least bit funny? Or kid-friendly?
Is there any way to put a positive spin on what WWE is doing?
Roman Reigns isn’t quite going to be what they’re hoping for. Same with Bray Wyatt. WWE has some decent young talent, but doesn’t know what to do with it (see Ziggler, Dolph). It’s tough to groom the next Austin or Rock when we’re always teased that the old Austin or Rock might be back.
Stardust is why Kiss didn’t let Tommy Thayer design his own persona. Yikes.
John Cena used a fireman’s carry to gently lower Kane onto a padded stretcher. Why did that immobilize “the monster”?
I’m often criticized for not finding a positive spin when it comes to WWE. Sorry. I just can’t invent a way to praise what WWE is doing. It stinks. I’m too intelligent to see anything entertaining about a woman covered in puke.
But the symbolism was certainly overwhelming.
WWE has performers with excellent potential: Reigns, the Wyatt family, Ziggler, Dean Ambrose, Wade Barrett, Cesaro and Seth Rollins, to name a few. Some get good response, but none can break through.
That’s not because of them. That’s because of creative. And it’s because no one truly goes over. Wins get traded. Water gets treaded.
What I’m about to suggest will never happen. But when I see mediocre Raws, and mediocre ratings, and a series of bad business decisions, and so many things going wrong, it really does seem like it’s time for someone else to run WWE.
That’s far easier said than done. WWE is a public company, but the process by which McMahon could be dumped seems incredibly complicated and highly unlikely. Anyway, I’m not sure who could/would replace him. When the entire wrestling industry collapsed into one promotion, administrative options became extremely limited. Bill Watts, Ole Anderson and Kevin Sullivan aren’t available.
It must once again be cited: More people used to watch wrestling than currently watch wrestling. The latest round of WWE firings were made to ease a financial burden created by McMahon’s mistakes, and for no other reason.
WWE is failing. You marks like to credit McMahon for what he’s done. But what’s he done lately?
