“The People Are As Mad As Hell…”

…But they'll continue to take it.

There are two reasons why I don't post editorial content on WZ anymore. One is because I know what I have to say won't change anything, and two is because wrestling hasn't necessarily compelled me to write.

I'd like to think I've learned my lesson from Howard Beale, because at the end of the day his outrage lead to nothing more than his death, his scripted death, because the "powers that be" made it so.

Last night at the Royal Rumble there was internet outrage, because the fans felt like the powers that be scripted Daniel Bryan's "death," even though as I write this he is more over in WWE than he has ever been during his tenure with the company.

So will we continue to take it?

Are we so mad as hell that we will stop watching?

Nope.

And the reason why is because the very person that we all thought was "buried" last night came out of the PPV as an even bigger superstar than he was before the show started. In fact, he was the only person anyone was buzzing about after the PPV was over.

Did anyone care about Orton or Cena? I'd say no, which is why WWE booked the "trade off" finishers, to make the match stand out at all, because the company just plain knows the fans don't want to take the same old crap anymore. But Cena sells merchandise right? So did Sin Cara, and was that good storytelling?

Bottom line is true fans crave good story telling, so don't book for the lowest common denominator. Book for the highest of intelligence. Stanley Kubrick would most assuredly agree, and he was an artist, not a salesman.

Did anyone care about Lesnar vs Show? I'd also say no because creative hasn't cared about Big Show in a decade, and I don't think Lesnar has cared about wrestling in double that amount of time, if ever. Lesnar is about money, and that's fine, but fans recognize a money mark over someone who has genuine story telling passion, which is why Lesnar had to hit Show with a chair over a billion times to peak the crowd's interest.

But the revelation, in the process of all the irony and backlash, is that WWE made Bray Wyatt and Roman Reigns into complete stars last night.

Does this mean Daniel Bryan will have a happy ending? Who knows. If he stands tallest at the end of WrestleMania then the end justifies the means, despite the little patience we all might have to see the means play out.

If Bryan doesn't stand tallest at the end of WrestleMania, then, and only then, can we claim we're as mad as hell, and we won't take it anymore.

But until then take solace in this; three SUPERSTARS came out of that PPV last night, and they weren't Orton or Cena or Show or Lesnar or Batista – they were Bryan, Reigns and Wyatt. That has to be a good thing.
