Number 4: WrestleMania 3
Remembered for some of the biggest moments in professional wrestling’s history, WrestleMania 3 was hosted in the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. Let’s talk about arguably the best wrestling match of all time, Ricky Steamboat vs. Randy Savage. 93,000 fans sat in complete and udder awe about what they were witnessing. 15 minutes of back and forth wrestling, story telling, and the essence or purity. Both guys were on their game, better than everyone else in the ring that night. I loved this match, especially because Steamboat had beaten a guy who would go on to great heights. Roddy Piper would face Adrian Adonis, who at the time was a great face and this was billed as Piper’s retirement match AND a hair vs. hair match. There was much on the line here, and they had a solid bout right in the middle of the night. Harley Race and The Junkyard Dog were legends at their craft, big men with power who could also get technical at any time. They worked less than five minutes, but provided good effort with a solid finish. Of course there were other good matches, but Hulk vs. Andre is the most memorable moment in the history of WrestleMania. The Unstoppable Force meets the Immovable Object. Andre and Hulk were the reason why professional wrestling became what it is today. Those names on the marquee are untouchable. That night paved the way for everything else we could expect and dream. Dreams came true when Hogan slammed Andre, taking the monster off of his feet and pinning him. 12 minutes, not great wrestling, but a greater importance for the landscape of Professional Wrestling and WrestleMania.
