Number 9: WrestleMania 21
WrestleMania goes Hollywood was the theme for WrestleMania 21. With two young stars coming into their own, John Cena and Batista would both capture the WWE and World Heavyweight Championships. Even though this meant so much to their careers, which would run side to side for many years, my favorite match was obviously Shawn Michaels vs. Kurt Angle. Almost a half hour long in the middle of the night, this is one of the top 5 WrestleMania matches of all time. The absolute genius of technique, athleticism, and skill was displayed between both guys. You wonder why Michaels is called “Mr. WrestleMania” watch this match. Angle making Michaels tap out does nothing but prove how intense this match was after that length of time. Besides this match, you got the first ever Money in the Bank ladder match, which was won by Edge. A great match with great spots, Edge would be the first to capture the briefcase. This match was different, refreshing, and now has it’s own Pay Per View. Lastly, Taker vs. Orton in a “Legend vs. Legend Killer” match was very solid, not great. The only real letdown was Big Show vs. Akebono. Some will argue the main events were not that fantastic, which is true, but they did what they needed to do, and that was build towards the future of the company.
