Number 10:WrestleMania 23
Many will wonder why I did not choose WrestleMania XX for number 10, maybe even higher up. Yes, we had two great matches of Benoit and Guerrero winning, but Undertaker’s return was lackluster. The match was not good, and Goldberg vs. Lesnar is only remembered for what happened from the crowd. This was a waste of time and did absolutely nothing afterwards. Also, Rock n Sock connection against Evolution was mediocre at best. I really did not feel this delivered on the stage it was. So, WrestleMania 23 had 80,000 fans at Ford Field to witness a spectacle. John Cena, a year after beating Triple H, would battle Shawn Michaels in the main event. A great match that showed more of Cena than just his usual five moves. Close to a half hour, Michaels and Cena delivered. They were also the tag team champions, which made things a little more interesting. We had a fantastic match between Undertaker and Batista, two giants battling for the World Heavyweight Championship. Back and forth, Taker would end up winning. Many argue this was the last time many believed that The Undertaker would lose. Money in the Bank featured big spots from Jeff Hardy and Edge, and included former champions such as Booker T and Randy Orton. There was a great mix of guys who “needed” the win, including both Hardy’s, CM Punk, and the actual winner, Mr. Kennedy. Overall, this match delivered in all ways. Lashley vs. Umaga with McMahon and Trump in the middle delivered a memorable moment, as the match was solid from a brawling and physical aspect. The only downside of the night was Khali vs. Kane, which I took a pee break for, as well as ECW Originals vs. New Breed. Other than that, this was a great night in many ways, and really kept the streak interesting as the previous years were somewhat of a let down, especially 19 and 20.
