#2. Santino for President
There was about a SPLIT second during Smackdown’s main event match on Sunday where I actually thought Santino could win the big one.
Okay…no there wasn’t, but how incredible was the moment? The atmosphere. Santino, Daniel Bryan, and the live crowd sucked all of us in. We knew the reality of the situation, but we didn’t care. We were “in the moment”. That was enough.
I think Santino is one of the most entertaining personalities in pro wrestling. He’s over, plain and simple. The world title picture isn’t where he belongs for the long term, but he could CARRY a mid-card division. I wish they hadn’t gone away from his IC title run so quickly. I was looking forward to him breaking Honky’s record.
It’s a section of pro wrestling that has been disregarded for quite some time. If it’s not a main event program, it’s apparently not important. It shouldn’t be that way.
There are countless performers equipped to be special. They don’t have to be at the top in order to do that.
“Gimmicky” gimmicks, such as Santino’s, often don’t work to a significant degree in today’s business. But then, there’s the exceptions to the rule. Santino has already proven, but further cemented the fact this past week, that he’s one of those exceptions.
