DOLPH ZIGGLER IN 2012
Had a lot of tweets regarding my statement last week that Dolph Ziggler should win the Royal Rumble or "Money in the Bank" next year. A lot of you feel he doesn't "need" those wins at this point. You think he is over enough without them.
I strongly disagree.
There's no denying my opinion of Ziggler right now. It should be evident by how often he's included in my editorials here on WZ. He is absolutely my favorite entertainer to watch each and every week. His attitude change has suited him well, he's involved in the best matches of the week, every week, and he's well on his way to a huge year in 2012, barring injury or something drastic.
It's still not enough.
Is Dolph Ziggler ready to main event WrestleMania 28? I don't believe he is. Not yet. Could he be ready with a win at the Rumble? Possibly. If Vince thinks he "needs" another main event guy for 'Mania, then Dolph could and should be that guy. A win at Rumble would assist in getting him ready for that, but with rumors of a Jericho/Punk match at WrestleMania, Vince won't "need" anyone else.
"Money in the Bank" is the PERFECT platform for someone in the position that Dolph is currently. He's on the brink. He needs that extra push. MITB should be given to someone (most times) with at least a bit of credibility already established, rather than someone without any rhyme or reason (see: Jack Swagger).
"Been there, done that" is not a good argument for why Ziggler shouldn't win the Rumble or MITB next year. They are tried and proven ways to help elevate stars. And as good as Dolph Ziggler has been lately and will continue to be, he could still use the help.
