Bobby Roode
One Gold Step Up
As I said yesterday in my "What's NOT Bothering Me" feature, Bobby Roode was the better choice to turn heel compared to his former tag team partner. Storm drinks beer and in the mind of a wrestling fan, that should ALWAYS be celebrated – not booed!
In all seriousness, I think the transition should help Roode progress further on the mic. That's the one area I felt he was lacking and a heel persona should give him more flexibility on the stick. This past week was a good start as I felt his opening promo was very promising and a good sign of what's to come for the new Champion.
TNA didn't go the route with the Roode/Storm story that I would have, but the end result is still the same as the original plan. Roode is Champion and now heel. Where they go from here will determine two things:
1) Was Hogan right or wrong in whether or not Roode is ready for that position.
2) Will James Storm finally get a chance to shine as a singles competitor.
If done right, both should be able to help the other elevate their game, but it's been proven time and time again in the past that one person typically outshines the other considerably when a successful tag team splits up. I'm afraid I know which one it would be if that were to be the case with these two and for Storm's sake, I hope I'm wrong.
