(4) Mexican America vs. Ink Inc. — Tag Team Championship
Not all of TNA’s storylines are thrown together, and for what it’s worth I’ve enjoyed the backstage brawls between these two teams. I like that they’re taking up very little screen time but still getting their feud across, making it easy to carry this through multiple PPV events. Like many though, I hope this is the end to their decently long feud, as I really don’t enjoy racially stereotyped tag teams. I think the whole concept is tacky and doesn’t really help their relations with Mexico’s AAA promotion. Teams like Mexican America and La Resistance always bugged me, because I think it shows just how narrow-minded and national pro wrestling is. You can see it when WWE puts up the same stupid car and telephone booth every time they’re in the UK, and you can see it in every tag team or faction that has to capitalize on the stereotypes that continue to separate real groups of people in every day life. I like both the talent and the gimmick of Ink Inc though, and I wish them the best in this match!
Prediction: Ink Inc should win this, as for awhile I legitimately forgot who held the titles. With Beer Money dismantled and Motor City riddled with injury, TNA is a far cry from being the best tag team company in the business. Looks like Ring of Honor is back to #1.
(5) Velvet Sky vs. Gail Kim — Knockout’s Championship
Welcome back Gail Kim to the “only company that ever used her efficiently”. There is something to be said about Gail’s time in the WWE in comparison to her last run in TNA as the first ever Knockout’s Champion, but I don’t buy into the idea that Kim was terrible in WWE because she was being held back. The WWE Divas division is awful, but Kim’s ring work was sloppy every time she got a chance to prove herself! How can she blame her failure in the WWE on anybody but herself, and maybe some of the girls she had to work with? It’s not the company that botches easy spots hun… Soap box aside, I wish her all the best in TNA, I really do.
Prediction: It would be foolish to take the title off Velvet this early, even if Kim is on a red-hot return streak. Building heels is child’s play, and can be done at any time with virtually any K.O. The real challenge will be building Velvet into a credible face champion, and making the division exciting. That is what they need to be focusing on, not shotgunning the belt onto the newest face that “crossed the line”.
(6) Eric Young vs. Robbie E — Television Championship
I hate the Jersey Shore. I hate everything that has to do with the Jersey Shore, every guest star from the show, and every character in pro wrestling that feels the need to fist pump the air and act like being a intellectual reject is the highest form of social cool-ness. So why do I like this feud so much…? I’ve never had a single nice thing to say about Robbie E (his gimmick, I’m sure he’s a solid wrestler and an all-around good guy), but I think it works really well with the off-the-wall antics of wrestling’s strangest man. Eric Young is a nutcase, but you can’t help but love him. His in-ring work speaks for itself… The TV title is an unnecessary belt brought in to make ONE guy look good, and they haven’t done anything useful with it since, so I’m not quite on the “EY is killing the title” bandwagon just yet. It’s just plain weird that I’m looking forward to this match, and that I hope the two of them continue to work together in the future. If nothing else, you gotta love seeing a super-serious guy like Rob Terry surrounded by these goons!
Prediction: Robbie E becomes the NEW Television Champion.
