THE STORYLINES: We’ve been reporting on WZ lately that Vince is already shaping up the Survivor Series pay per view. That alone adds a lot to HIAC and Vengeance (just three weeks away from this Sunday), two pay per views that are typically looked at as transitional or throw-away events. I fully expect Truth and Miz to get involved in some capacity at HIAC and while questions won’t completely be answered this Sunday, that story is leading to much more. What happens with it this weekend is probably the most interesting element to the pay per view for me.
I don’t anticipate much being revealed on Sunday as it relates to Vince’s long-term plan for Miz and Truth and it’s for that reason you might hesitate buying this pay per view compared to Vengeance. I assume that the recently fired duo will do a typical run-in and not much more this weekend. Vengeance and the following weeks on Raw will be much more telling as it relates to the true meat of this story.
The stories within the actual matches themselves are probably lacking on this pay per view more than they have in the past and will be in the future as well. Belts won’t be changing hands unless WWE finally gives the win to Beth Phoenix or there’s some unexpected occurrence with one of the mid-card titles. Mark Henry’s continued progress is interesting to some, but that story is just more of the same – good, but not ground-breaking.
The storylines aren’t selling this pay per view, but there are few things that could make for water cooler conversation the next day depending on how WWE decides to handle them.
BUY OR SELL: My recommendation if you’re trying to decide on buying this pay per view or not is to “sell it”. Especially if it comes down to you buying this pay per view or Vengeance. The gimmick of two main event “Hell in a Cell” matches is enough for some, but I don’t believe it compensates for the other areas in which this ppv is lacking. When you consider that WWE is building and planning for Survivor Series already, this pay per view will do the least in that regard. Vengeance and thereafter will be much more relevant to the cause.
Save your money this Sunday, use WrestleZone coverage to keep up and catch Raw the following night. I think it’s safe to say you won’t miss much if you do.
