A quick reiview of this pasts week edition of Smackdown.
This week’s edition of Smackdown I thought had to be one of the best Smackdown’s I’ve watched in recent months. Before some of you click away from the screen in frustration, hear me out…
Let’s break it down a little…
The show opened to Christian versus Mark Henry. Now by no means is Mark Henry a fantastic technical wrestler but in recent months he has received his last big push and is seemingly attempting to run with the ball. He is a good worker and they both put on a solid match considering.
Cody Rhodes continued to gain heat by putting bags on people in the crowd and we finally got to see the debut of Jinder Mahal. A man who looks intimidating and seemingly could be a future prospect.
Then we had Ezekiel Jackson face off against Wade Barrett which was similar to the PPV but at least the Intercontinental Championship is being used a little on TV and the match was solid until the end.
Two men who should be big stars in the future showed what they were worth when they faced each other; of course I’m talking about Daniel Bryan and Ted Dibiase. It was shame to see Dibiase look weak at the end but maybe this is his opening to finally get involved in a programme now on Friday nights.
The main event between Randy Orton and Sheamus was solid and was given an extra edge (no pun intended) when Christian finally made his heel turn.
Apart from a Divas tag match and Johnny Curtis deciding to pour milk over his head I thought that show was a solid display of future potential within the company. No big names were used apart from Orton and it should be seen as a step in the right direction as they have multiple ways of using this talent in the upcoming months.
Sure, the glamour of having separate brands have gone out of the window and WWE do struggle to produce a main event we haven’t seen before without having to throw in a new blood, but those times are coming. Big names have slowly started to fall off the roster and the Del Rio’s and Christian’s are finally stepping up their game.
WWE has a strong roster and if it is used appropriately then I’m sure we could get some impressive television produced. I myself am interested in seeing what direction they take.
One other thing should now be seen as a certainty. Christian should definitely regain the World Heavyweight Championship at some point as it seems to make sense as he is now a heel.
