Greetings one and all and welcome to the first THT in what seems like forever…
I know what you’re thinking? “I thought we got rid of this guy!” and for a while you did..
First off I owe all the people who enjoyed THT a reason for my absence… I finally moved out of home, which meant I had no PC and NO SKY TV to actually watch Wrestling… I am a firm believer in not talking about what you don’t see, so I stopped writing for a while… but that has all changed!!!
There is too much for me to cover to do the recap, and frankly I am not even gonna try but I am gonna briefly touch on some of the issues I think are The Hot Topic right now, as ever your feedback is welcome as well as anything you would like to see… What If? will be returning as well!!!
The most pressing thing at the moment is the discipline issues that seem to be plauging WWE. Now as ever I am not gonna say who did this or that, lest I be sued into oblivion by the powers that be… but I can comment on the facts, which are someone has yet again had to be publicly punished for a transgression…in a hotel…
OK, we all know it’s Randy Orton but he isn’t the only one who has been reported to have “broken ranks” lately.
Whatever the rights and wrongs or however “Rock & Roll” Orton’s trip to Europe was, he has majorly screwed up, but more importantly he has shown WWE up for preferential treatment.
I seem to remember a reported incident with another superstar, being release cos of an incident in a hotel a few years back, someone who is now a major player in TNA…
Preferential is a little strong maybe we don’t know what Orton is being punished with,, but Rhyno was released…anything less is surely a double standard…yet, WWE’s terse one line comment clearly means something serious is afoot, but lets face it, these guys earn enough money for a fine not to matter, just like in Soccer… One way to save Randy from blowing his career would be to be forced down to OVW like Big Show was many years ago… skeleton wages, small crowds, no exposure to the major shows… Show came back a different man and ended up leaving with his dignity and a stellar run under his belt.
I like Randy Orton, I like watching him, but if he disappeared tomorrow, WWE would survive, just like it did with the Warrior… No one is bigger than the WWE… Orton is in real danger of finding that out if he cannot control whatever demon he is facing…
A major positive for RAW right now is Santino Marella, I like what they have done with him, it reminded me of how Savio Vega came from nowhere but was instantly over
WWE is not in the slump people seem to think it is, it is harder to build stars with the brand extension… the last generation, Angle, Edge, Cena all were with WWE slightly before it… one thing Vince MUST do before the end of the year however is get The Rock live on a show, even as a referee… The only RAW I did see during my time off was the episode with him on, and it was not only a shock, but showed the man still has more chops on the mic than just about anyone… If Kennedy is going to be big, he has to meet the Rock to chew the fat… his whole future could depend on it.
ECW needs to be put out of it’s misery now, there is talent there, but the WWE brands could use them better than ECW ever could… It is doubtful that ECW could pull round now, even if Punk ends up the poster child…
Well thats it for now, short but hopefully sweet… the next column will not be as far away as the last so keep tuned…
