The Rock: Sell-Out or Sold-Out?

By: Chris â<80><9c>The Authorityâ<80> Schultz

It looks like the millions……and millions of the Rock’s fans took a trip to the theater this weekend and spent their money to check out his new movie, â<80><9c>The Game Plan.â<80> $22.7 million to be exact. That’s right, Dwayne â<80><9c>The Rockâ<80> Johnson had the highest grossing movie at the box office beating out the critically acclaimed â<80><9c>The Kingdomâ<80> by a substantial margin. I’m not sure if The Rock is up for an Academy Award just yet, but he just laid the smack down on the Oscar winning Jamie Foxx and costar Jennifer Garner. Although I am happy for the Rock and his new found success, I can’t help but think that he sold out the man and the company that brought him to the dance, Vince McMahon and the WWE. True, the box offices were sold out for â<80><9c>The Game Planâ<80>, but has The Rock been labeled a sell out in the world of professional wrestling?

OK, I admit it, I am part of the latter. That’s right, I said it. The Rock is a sellout! Why? Why you ask? Seriously! When was the last time you saw the Rock inside the squared circle on WWE television? I am not talking about some pre-recorded video segment with The Great One plugging his newest flick either. Tell me that I am not the only one who heard The Rock say that the WWE was his home and he would always be a part of such a great organization. What a load of crap! Look, I am the first to admit that The Rock has talent when it comes to acting, but don’t sit there and lie to all the fans that cheered you on in every arena across the globe. I now smell what the Rock is cooking and it stinks. It stinks real bad.

I know that all of you don’t share the same opinion on this matter as I do, but let me ask you this. How awesome would it be if The Rock just came back for a couple of months to help out a product, that in my opinion, is a little stale as of late. Can you imagine the type of fan reaction he would receive? The rating numbers would shoot through the roof. You can tease us with a Stone Cold Steve Austin beer bash on RAW or a Hulk Hogan PPV appearance, but nothing could even come close to The Rock returning to his roots. I would be lying if I said I don’t get goose bumps just thinking about it. Don’t get your hopes up though. With all the success he is having in the movie industry, I don’t see The Rock coming back unless they induct him in the WWE Hall of Fame. Even then, we might have to just settle for comments via satellite.

So what is it going to take to get The People’s Champ back in the ring? Just a couple of years ago, Wrestlemania 21 was practically in the Rock’s backyard when the event took place in Los Angeles, California. Wrestling fans were certain they would get to see the 9-time World Champion electrify The Staples Center for one more time, but The Champ was nowhere to be seen. He can’t make an appearance at Wrestlemania, an event that made the man who he is today, but he can scream â<80><9c>Gentleman start your engines!â<80> at a NASCAR race? It’s time to close the book on this chapter of wrestling history and just say goodbye to The Rock. I am tired of playing the waiting game and have given up any hope of every seeing the Brahma Bull on RAW or Smackdown ever again. You know what Rock? It doesn’t matter if you come back! Wrestling will survive without you.

What are your thoughts? Is the Rock a sell out?
