Hello to all my fans and to those who might not be fans of mine. My name is Nick Dinsmore. From 2004 until 2007, I was Eugene on WWE. Before my time on Monday Night Raw and Smackdown, I wrestled for Ohio Valley Wrestling in Louisville, KY. This is my first column for WrestleZone.com. I am very excited to be given the opportunity to give my thoughts, observations and memories about this great sport that has made my boyhood dream come true. In my first entry, I thought I might give everyone a brief history of my career in professional wrestling.
I began training in May of 1996 at the Danny Davis school of professional wrestling. My first match was later that year in September against “Handsome” Jason Lee. In 1997, I ventured to Memphis, TN. and wrestled for the USWA. Growing up I watched USWA every Saturday. I saw stars like Jerry “The King” Lawler, Brian Christopher, Jeff Jarrett, and PG-13. It was a dream come true to wrestle at the Channel 5 studio that I had seen on TV growing up.
In 1998, I was given the opportunity to wrestle on the very first Brian Pillman Memorial Show. There I met Terry Taylor. He was the man that gave me my first break and called me to wrestle for WCW. I can still remember the phone call I received telling me to show up for Monday Night Nitro and Thursday Night Thunder. I felt like I was on top of the world! I worked several shows for WCW throughout 1998 and early 1999. I was then offered a developmental contract by WWE. I would be training back at OVW in my hometown of Louisville, KY.
At this time, WWE was sending all of their developmental talent to OVW to train under the guidance of Danny Davis. Since I had close to 4 years experience, I was helping the new WWE talent perfect their craft to become the Superstars of tomorrow. During this time, I worked with many of the Superstars seen on WWE TV today. Superstars such as: John Cena, Batista, Brock Lesnar, Randy Orton, Victoria, Lance Cade, and Shelton Benjamin just to name a few.
In 2004, I created an idea for a character in hopes to debut on WWE TV. Eugene was born! I was very confident in my skills as a wrestler and entertainer, but never expected Eugene to rise to the popularity that was achieved. My boyhood dream had finally come true. I was a WWE Superstar. I am very thankful for WWE giving me the chance to showcase my ability and skills.
In 2007, I was released by WWE. Now I am back on the Independent wrestling scene. I feel as if this is a new chapter in my career. I look forward to seeing old friends, meeting new ones, and continue entertaining fans around the world.
As I said before, I am very excited to write a column here on WrestleZone.com. I hope to give some insight on the business that I truly love and I hope to continue entertaining fans worldwide.
