Evolution: The Best Ever?

The Raw 15th Anniversary Special this past Monday night was a huge success. The WWE enjoyed huge ratings and in my personal opinion, the show was off the chain! The highlight of the show being the return of the most dominant team ever assembled, Evolution. I know that’s a bold statement considering there has been some dominant stables in professional wrestling over the years such as The 4 Horseman, Degeneration X, and let’s not forget the biggest of them all, the N.W.O. However, no matter how popular those factions might have been, Evolution may go down as the best tandem ever. Let me explain.
First of all, Evolution was a collection of former, current, and future WWE and World Heavyweight Champions. The center piece was Triple H, arguably the best professional wrestler in the business today. Let’s face it, Triple H has beaten them all and quite frankly, I cannot remember the last time he wrestled a bad match. Combine that with his ability to make the fans laugh, cry, and hate him, and you have yourself a future WWE Hall of Famer. The WWE or wrestling in general without Triple H is like the NFL without Tom Brady and the New England Patriots or the NBA without Kobe Bryant. Now those might be bad analogies, but you get the point. In fact, The Game could go down as the best ever, which remains to be seen.
Speaking of the greatest of all time, Ric Flair’s name tops most fans list. He is a 16 time World Champion! The Nature Boy has been tearing it up for over 3 decades and he’s still got some juice left in him. Love him or hate him, you have to respect what he has done for the business. Half of the WWE roster consider him their idol growing up and he is still making them look good in and out of the ring today. I cannot imagine a wrestling world without the styling and profiling son of a gun. I know I am going out on a limb by saying this, but I really think Ric has one more title run left in him. Call it optimistic or whatever you want to, but Ric Flair is capable of taking back the strap.
One of those wrestlers who looked up to the Nature Boy was Batista. Here is a guy that just looks the part of a World Champion. His nickname, The Animal, couldn’t be a better fit. At first, Batista was just an intimidating force and enforcer so to speak in his earlier days, but now he is one of the most popular and charismatic superstars the WWE has ever seen. The fans go completely nuts when the big man walks through those curtains and the pyros light up behind him. Sure, he’s not the most sound technical wrestler inside the ring, but there is no denying he can put on a good show. Just look at his feud with the Undertaker. Barring any sort of injury, Batista will be main eventing for the next several years and will most likely do it with gold around his waist.
Last but not least, you have Randy Orton, the 3rd Generation Superstar. This guy personifies a heel in this business. He’s arrogant, cocky, and without remorse. Not only that, he still holds the record for the youngest World Champion in professional wrestling history. Wrestling is in Orton’s blood and you can tell it’s what he was born to do. Orton served as the future of Evolution and like he points out all the time, it is his destiny to be the WWE Champion. Orton is also The Legend Killer. It was fun to watch him take out his frustrations on former WWE Champions, legends, and Hall of Famers over the years. We have only seen the beginning of what I believe to be a long and illustrious career that has Orton seeing gold on more than just 2 occasions.
Now do you see what I am getting at? It’s just too bad this group didn’t hang around longer. When you have that much potential though in one faction, it’s bound to explode, which it did. I am a mark for Evolution. I was since they first came onto the scene and I still am to this day, hoping that we might see another reunion down the road. Who could possibly stop them? I pray at the very least, the WWE puts together of DVD collection of all Evolution’s greatest hits. Thanks for the memories Evolution and for reminding us what living the true American dream is and that’s being paid, laid, and made. Till next time.
