Nick’s 1/18 Raw Review: The Good, The Bad & The Wrestling

Gail Kim and Eve vs Maryse and Alicia Fox: This was a pretty solid Diva’s match. I also think it was a smart move to book the bout as it reminded fans that the 4 women involved are the remaining Divas in the tournament to crown a new champion. In the end, I see this thing coming down to Gail Kim vs Maryse, with Maryse winning the title, as it seems WWE has been positioning Maryse as the top Diva on the brand even before Melina went down with an injury.

Randy Orton vs Chris Masters: Again, much like the Sheamus vs Bourne match, this did nothing to help anyone involved. The means definitely justify the end last night as it pertains to Sheamus/Orton, as all WWE ended up getting to was the image of Sheamus standing over Orton with the belt held up. WWE could have done this in one segment and then had something a lot more exciting happen down the line in hour 2 of the show, but instead we got two meaningless matches and the feel that Sheamus vs Orton is a minor story on Raw.

DX and Hornswoggle vs Big Show, The Miz and The Flame (Jon Heder): This was a nonsense main event. Virtually no steak and all silly sizzle, the main event of Raw fell flat as it usually does when Hornswoggle is involved. At least the post-match segment set up some nice story line potential as now DX can have some what of an internal feud over how they’re going to co-exist in the Royal Rumble match, but otherwise, this was a very forgettable and useless main event.
