Nick’s 1/18 Raw Review: The Good, The Bad & The Wrestling

The Good

Although I felt the overall show to be unfocused, at least WWE has revealed about half the names that are competing in the Royal Rumble Match this year. I do, however, feel torn as to how the post-main event segment played out. On the one hand, I liked the fact that the main event players were hyping the bout as a big deal, as that translates into the audience accepting the match as the focal point of the PPV, but on the other hand, why did they make it sound like such a surprise that they were competing in the bout? I’ll get into the downside of the segment in the Bad category.

It’s nice to see The Miz and MVP getting a good chunk of Raw time to flesh out their current feud. They are really working well together, and so far they’ve done a nice job adding momentum to their current program. Generally, Chris Jericho is the one to work a segment with the Raw guest hosts, so it was refreshing to see someone who’s on a roll, in this case, The Miz, get the opportunity to mix it up with the hosts. Additionally, the segment pushed The Miz into the main event match of the evening, which helps give the illusion that the program between him and MVP is actually a main event level feud on Raw.
