A British Point of View: Should Rey Mysterio Head to TNA?

Rey Mysterio seems to be a sore subject to bring up with wrestling fans. The main reason for this seems to be that it’s always 50/50 on whether Rey Mysterio gets support. On one hand you have children who love Rey because he is the underdog and a heavy babyface. On the other you have traditional wrestling fans who loved Rey Mysterio more from back in the WCW days when he was able to push himself to the limit and wasn’t thrown down everyones throat as a main eventer. Rey Mysterio Jr back in the WCW days was young, athletic and fast in the ring.

As time has gone by and as Rey Mysterio’s career has developed then inevitably so has the injuries.

You cannot be a high-flyer in this business on TV for the best part of 15 years putting over big guys and having very dangerous matches with high-flyers of the same ability without gaining injuries.

Rey Mysterio is obviously a very talented wrestler but how much longer can he keep going with the WWE?

Rey is on the road constantly and every 5-6 months he seems to need time off for various injuries. His knees are shot and he is unable to do the things in the ring that he used too.

Where does Rey Mysterio stand with WWE? I hope I’m not stepping over a boundary with this next comment because I was in attendance for this and I was happy for Rey as an individual, but Rey won the World Heavyweight Championship at Wrestlemania 22. Rey winning the championship seemed like a nice gesture for his efforts in the business and seemed to be something that WWE exploited from the unfortunate death of Eddie Guerrero. I may get shot down for that but at times it does come across as this was the case.

Rey has always been a capable wrestler but it never seemed realistic that he could retain the heavyweight championship. Sure enough they have put Rey in many main events since but it never feels likely that they would put the championship on him again.

So what can they do with him now? They won’t give him the belt. WWE’s cruiserweight division seems to have dried up. So we are left with little options.

Now I know Rey is heading into a match at Wrestlemania 26, and to all intended purposes it should be a great match if told correctly. But it also feels like a stopping block for both wrestlers because they haven’t got many options for them at this year’s show.

So I ask… Should Rey Mysterio head to TNA? The reason why I post this argument is simple. Rey would be on the road less… So he would reduce the chance of injuries, the X Division seems to be the perfect home for Rey and they would treat Rey Mysterio in the highest regard.

The grass seems greener on the other side in my opinion and once Wrestlemania is over for another year I think Rey should seriously consider his options with the WWE.

If Rey is happy with his situation in WWE then great. But the more situations arise with injuries then he may struggle more with the company.

If there is any long lasting issues between him and the WWE after last years suspension with his alleged issues with delivering prescriptions on time then TNA may be his better options in the next 12 months.

Do you agree? Do you think I’m off the mark or would you just rather see Rey in TNA anyway?
