In one way, WrestleMania is coming early for WWE fans. Many insiders expected to see Charlotte Flair vs Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania next year, but they’ll be clashing before that at WWE Survivor Series this weekend. This shake-up is all due to Becky Lynch’s recent injury.
It should be a great match, but let’s take a look at how the two competitors stack up.
Family Pedigree
Both Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair come from high-profile families. Charlotte is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer, and arguably the greatest wrestler to ever live, Ric Flair. Meanwhile, Rousey’s mother, AnnMaria De Mars is a talented judoka that was the first American to win a gold medal at the World Judo Championships. Those are some impressive genes!
Athletic Success
Both wrestlers have athletic backgrounds. Flair focused on volleyball during school, and won two NCHSAA 4 A-State championships during high school. She later played volleyball for Appalachian State University, so sports came natural to her.
Rousey’s athletic pedigree is quite a level higher than Flair. Not only did Rousey win a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Judo, but she became one of the most successful female mixed martial artists of all-time. She captured titles in both Strikeforce and UFC before retiring after a string of knockout losses.
WWE Accomplishments
Neither Rousey or Flair can really be described as veteran wrestlers, but Charlotte has been in the WWE considerably longer than her more famous counterpart. During her time in WWE, Flair has won the NXT Women’s Championship, the WWE Divas Championship, the WWE RAW Women’s Championship four times, and the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship twice. That’s a total of eight title belts!
Rousey is much newer to the squared circle, as she made her debut earlier this year. However, she has found success very quickly. She’s currently on her first reign as WWE RAW Women’s Champion.
Who Has The Momentum?
While Charlotte Flair has a great record within WWE, she just recently lost her SmackDown Championship to Becky Lynch. She has been shown struggling with confidence issues since then. Rousey has been the polar opposite, as she is undefeated since debuting, and recently headlined WWE Evolution in a successful match against Nikki Bella. Rousey is certainly the one with a greater push at the moment.
