The March 27, 2024, episode of AEW Dynamite went down at the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, QC. The show featured a blockbuster line-up as Dynamite continued the build to April’s AEW Dynasty pay-per-view event.
Will Ospreay, The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada, among others worked the latest edition of Wednesday Night Dynamite. Let’s take a look at some of highs and lows from AEW Dynamite this week.
Miss – Nicholas Jackson botches the EVP Trigger
The Young Bucks took on Private Party in a tag team match on AEW Dynamite tonight. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson showed up in a colorful attire for the match. There’s no denying that they’ve fully embraced their heel persona.
The tag team match featured a lot of high-risk spots. Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen looked to repeat their earlier win over the Bucks in this match. However, Quen missed a 630 that almost saw him land on his neck.
The Bucks capitalized on the moment to hit Quen with the EVP Trigger, which Nicholas botched because he couldn’t keep his balance on the slippery ring canvas.
Hit – Will Ospreay vs. Katsuyori Shibata on AEW Dynamite
Will Ospreay and Katsuyori Shibata kicked off all the action on AEW Dynamite this week. Both men are no strangers to each other. Excalibur reminded fans of Shibata’s win over Ospreay in a New Japan ring back in 2017.
The two wrestlers spent the first few minutes of the match warming up to each other. They gradually picked up pace to the point it turned into hard-hitting action. Ospreay sold Shibata’s offense to make him look like a million bucks.
The near falls kept the fans glued throughout the entire match. The Aerial Assassin picked up the win over The Wrestler with a Hidden Blade. Both men showed respect to each other after a fantastic opener.
Miss – Mercedes Moné on commentary
Mercedes Moné joined the three-man booth for the fatal four-way match on AEW Dynamite. AEW’s latest blockbuster signing watched Willow Nightingale, Kris Statlander, Anna Jay, and Skye Blue try to earn a shot at the AEW TBS Championship.
I feel like Moné didn’t do exactly the best job on commentary. There were many instances where she could have talked but chose to watch the action instead. Also, it seemed Statlander and Nightingale were the focus of her attention, which kind of gave away the outcome.
Hit – Swerve Strickland gets a shot at Samoa Joe on AEW Dynamite
Don Callis had inserted Konosuke Takeshita in the world title picture last week on AEW Dynamite. Big Take met Swerve Strickland to determine the new number one contender in the main event of Dynamite this week.
Takeshita clearly had the size and strength advantage and he used it keep his opponent at arm’s length. Swerve had his come back with an amazing flurry of offense. The DDT in the corner popped the crowd big time.
Swerve managed to put away Takeshita with Big Pressure. The new number one contender will make his match official with AEW World Champion Samoa Joe next Wednesday night on Dynamite.
