There’s no hyperbole in stating that IMPACT Wrestling had one of the best rosters in all of professional wrestling in 2019. The incredible litany of talents that graced IMPACT Zone at the time led to some great matches on weekly tapings and PPV events.
IMPACT TV matches, in particular, became on par with their PPV shows. You had established names like Brian Cage, Sami Callihan, and Gail Kim at the top of the division. Then, newcomers like Josh Alexander completely dominated the tag team division.
With that being said, let’s take a look at some of the best IMPACT Wrestling TV matches of 2019:
The North vs Eddie Edwards & Naomichi Marufuji (IMPACT World Tag Team Championship Match – November 12)
Josh Alexander and Ethan Page reunited following the Walking Weapon’s arrival on the IMPACT Zone in 2019. The pair quickly captured the tag team titles and became one of the most dominating tag teams in the division.
The matches the two men were part of in 2019 were simply fantastic. One such match came at IMPACT Wrestling #799 against established names in Eddie Edwards and Naomichi Marufuji. This was 17 minutes of great traditional tag team action.
Marufuji had pinned Alexander in a singles match in the lead-up to their tag team title match. The Genius of the Ark handpicked fellow former NOAH colleague in Eddie Edwards to produce one of the best matches on IMPACT TV in 2019.
LAX vs. The Lucha Brothers (IMPACT World Tag Team Championship Match – February 8)
LAX and The Lucha Brothers had one of the most violent feuds in IMPACT Wrestling five years ago. It is safe to say that Santana and Ortiz had the greatest success in IMPACT as the promotion knew how to book the pair.
The two teams met for the IMPACT World Tag Team Championship at IMPACT Wrestling #760 in Mexico. Their chemistry was evident from the get-go. The match featured plenty of great spots. In the end, Penta and Fenix dethroned LAX to win the tag team titles.
Michael Elgin vs. Rich Swann (IMPACT Wrestling #774)
Michael Elgin and Rich Swann were forced to carry the main event scene following Brian Cage’s injury. Not only did they do what was expected of them, but the pair had two of the best matches IMPACT Wrestling had to offer in 2019.
Swann excelled in his role as the underdog babyface. Elgin, on the other hand, delivered a convincing beat down on Swann, who barely survived with a DQ win. The pair would have another fantastic singles match months later.
Brian Cage vs. Sami Callihan (IMPACT Wrestling #797)
After putting match of the year contender at Bound for Glory, Brian Cage and Sami Callihan ran it back at the October 25 IMPACT Wrestling TV taping. The stakes were high as the Machine had put his world title on the line against The Draw.
The show marked IMPACT Wrestling’s debut on AXS TV, and the promotion made the most out of the exposure. The main event was set inside a steel cage, which meant brutality was guaranteed.
Both men beat each other with everything they had. In the end, Callihan popped a piledriver from the second turnbuckle to defeat Cage for the IMPACT World Championship.
Brian Cage vs. Daga vs. Michael Elgin vs. Moose vs. Rich Swann vs. Tessa Blanchard (IMPACT World Title No.1 Contendership Gauntlet Match – November 19)
This match held the record for the longest match to have aired specifically on IMPACT TV until Josh Alexander’s 60-minute Iron Man Match against TJP surpassed it. The gauntlet match was evenly paced with well-crafted eliminations.
Rich Swann and Tessa Blanchard’s performances were simply incredible. Swann, especially, brought his A-game during his exchange with Michael Elgin. Blanchard, on the other hand, emerged as the winner after she countered Weapon X for the win.
