There’s no denying that IMPACT Wrestling had a monumental 2020. The promotion sent the wrestling world into a frenzy by putting their world title on Tessa Blanchard. This shocking moment was followed by the return of Motor City Machine Guns.
IMPACT produced several match-of-year contenders on their monthly pay-per-view events. With that being said, let’s recall the best IMPACT Wrestling PPV matches of 2020:
Motor City Machine Guns vs. The Rascalz (IMPACT Wrestling Slammiversary 2020)
The Motor City Machine Guns returned to their home promotion in 2020. Chris Sabin and Alex Shelley entered into a feud with The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wenz). The two teams kicked off Slammiversary 2020 in thrilling fashion.
The match featured plenty of high-risk spots. Sabin and Shelley brought their A-Game against their much younger counterparts. Their styles complemented each other to produce an epic tag team encounter.
Deonna Purrazzo vs. Jordynne Grace (30-Minute Iron Man Match for IMPACT Knockouts World Championship – Emergence 2020, Night 2)
The Knockouts Division remained IMPACT Wrestling’s greatest strength in 2020. The division showcased its credibility with this epic 30-minute Iron Man Match between Deonna Purrazzo and Jordynne Grace for the Knockouts World Championship.
The Virtuosa delivered some incredible technical offense to keep her much stronger opponent at arm’s length. The last three minutes of the match brought the excitement and drama to a whole new level.
Eric Young vs. Rich Swann (IMPACT World Title Match – Bound for Glory)
Rich Swann eliminated Eric Young in their five-way elimination match at Slammiversary XVIII and entered into a feud with him. Young captured the IMPACT World Championship in the lead-up to Bound for Glory.
The champion met number one contender Swann for the world title in the main event of IMPACT Wrestling’s Bound for Glory pay-per-view event. Young did some of the best heel work of his career in this match.
In the end, Swann finally got the big win after he put away his bitter opponent to claim the Impact World Championship.
Tessa Blanchard vs. Sami Callihan (World Title Match – IMPACT Wrestling Hard to Kill)
Tessa Blanchard and Sami Callihan collided in a high-profile feud in 2019. The pair had an excellent outing at Slammiversary XVII. They followed the action with another solid encounter at Unbreakable on August 2, 2019.
The final match in this epic trilogy put the stakes on a whole new level. Blanchard faced Callihan for the IMPACT World Championship at Hard to Kill. The match focused on Blanchard’s toughness and urgency to take advantage of every moment to outperform The Draw.
The ending featured one of the biggest surprises in IMPACT Wrestling’s illustrious history.
Ace Austin vs. Eddie Edwards vs. Eric Young vs. Rich Swann vs. Trey Miguel (Five-Way Elimination Match for IMPACT World Championship – Slammiversary 2020)
Five of the most competitive men in IMPACT Wrestling history collided for the top prize in this match. The bout was chaotic from bell to bell. Eric Young made his surprise return in this match to the shock of every other participant.
Rich Swann and Trey Miguel, in particular, impressed with their incredible offense. The Canadian Destroyer to the outside really took the action to another level. In the end, Eddie Edwards eliminated the future Bullet Club member to win the vacant world title.
IMPACT Wrestling named this match one of the top five greatest matches in 2020.
