2022 was one of the most consistent years for IMPACT Wrestling when it came to pay-per-view action. The promotion delivered some fantastic PPV events all year long.
From Josh Alexander’s brilliant world title defense against Eddie Edwards to Frankie Kazarian’s banger against Mike Bailey at Bound for Glory, IMPACT proved they had one of the best products in the business.
With that said, these are the best IMPACT PPV matches of 2022:
Jordynne Grace vs. Masha Slamovich (Knockouts Championship – Bound for Glory)
Bound for Glory 2022 had no shortage of great matches. The October PPV event produced one of the best women’s matches of the year in Jordynne Grace versus Masha Slamovich. The challenger came off as a serious threat to the champion’s title run.
The match featured brutal action ranging from nasty suplexes to chest-rattling chops. Masha nearly took Jordynne to the limit with her vicious offense, but the champion managed to prevail after a hard-fought battle.
Josh Alexander vs. Moose (IMPACT World Championship – Rebellion)
Josh Alexander is arguably one of the best technical wrestlers on the planet. Every move he performs is crisp and on point. Plus, his psychology is second to none. Moose, however, is quite possibly one of the most hated heels in IMPACT Wrestling in his storied rivalry with Alexander.
Moose had ruined Alexander’s world title win by invoking his Call Your Shot Gauntlet win at Bound for Glory 2021. The pair met in a ‘rematch’ as the main event of Rebellion and delivered an all-time great match.
The Walking Weapon demonstrated his mat wrestling skills against the powerful strikes of Moose, finally putting him away with the C4 Spike to reclaim the world title.
Frankie Kazarian vs. Mike Bailey (X-Division Championship – Bound for Glory)
It was a clash of old school versus new school as Frankie Kazarian met Mike Bailey for the X-Division title at Bound for Glory. Kaz played his veteran role to perfection as he tried to lure the relatively young champion to his game plan.
Bailey had already cemented himself as one of the best X-Division champions with a terrific reign up to that point. The Speedball looked great even in defeat in one of the best IMPACT PPV matches of 2022.
Josh Alexander vs. Tomohiro Ishii (Under Siege)
One of Josh Alexander’s first title defenses after regaining the title at Rebellion came against Tomohiro Ishii. The pair met in the main event of the Under Siege special on May 7, 2022, and they delivered a banger.
For those who are familiar with Ishii’s work, they know just how good he’s between the ropes. The NJPW veteran pulled out big moves from his arsenal to slow down the always-brilliant Josh Alexander.
The champion responded with equally devastating lariats, headbutts and suplexes to put away the tougher-than-nails Ishii and retain his title.
Josh Alexander vs. Eddie Edwards (IMPACT World Championship – Bound for Glory)
Eddie Edwards became a detestable heel after he turned his back on the IMPACT Zone and aligned with Honor No More. The former multi-time world champion challenged Josh Alexander for his title in the main event of Bound for Glory.
This outing turned out to be (arguably) the best IMPACT PPV match of 2022. Edwards showed his veteran instinct by countering Alexander’s big moves. He also planted the champion with a vertical suplex on the exposed wooden floor.
A series of run-ins from Honor No More seemingly put the tide in favor of the challenger, but the champion fought through. After several minutes of back-and-forth exchange, Alexander planted Edwards with the second C4 Spike to extend his title reign.
