The Hardy Boyz seemed like they would be a tag team for life, but there were quite a few fans who realized early on that Jeff Hardy, in particular, had a lot of potential. In 2002, Jeff Hardy was really making the ascent as a singles star, even competing for the WWE Championship at one point.
However, this triggered jealousy in Matt Hardy, who attacked him during a singles match. Even in 2009, they would have another break-up angle that led to a WrestleMania match. It worked out well because both superstars had success in their own right individually.
