WWE SummerSlam 2019 marked another great PPV in the bag for WWE. 2019 has actually low-key been a very good year in terms of PPV quality and we’re already about 8 months in. It’s incredible to think that even if the remaining PPVs of the year don’t deliver, it still means over 3/4ths of the PPVs delivered this year.
If you include the special attraction show that was Super ShowDown, then the only average PPV WWE had this year was Fastlane – and even that wasn’t as bad as many people expected it to be. The only reason it’s down below is that the quality wasn’t up to par as compared to other PPVs. However, what’s even more notable is the fact that WWE is constantly pulling off a great string of PPVs where none of them had any hype going in.
Perhaps the low expectations allowed fans to let their hair down and enjoy the show more, but the reality is that WWE did a fantastic job with the PPV, particularly once the crowd started getting hotter. What seems clear is that there is a new direction in WWE and with the second biggest show of the year over, the company will undoubtedly be building towards that.
