When it was finally time for Gargano and Ciampa to collide in the main event of NXT Takeover: New Olreans, it was the hottest feud in wrestling. There were no titles on the line. It was an unsanctioned match that Gargano needed to win to be reinstated to NXT.
It was the main event and despite no titles on the line, it was the biggest match. Tommaso Ciampa made his way out first, entering to a chorus of boos. Never before has an entrance theme just been jeers from the audience. There was something very special about the moment as the crowd united their voices against Ciampa. The entire arena chanted “You Suck” at him while he soaked it all in. It must have been his most validating moment as a performer.
