It was around September 2013, and Cody Rhodes faced the ax on-screen after speaking out against The Authority. He was forced to put his career on the line and he lost to then-WWE Champion Randy Orton, thus getting fired in storyline.
However, the reality was that he was getting married to Brandi Reed, who then went by the ring name Eden Stiles. He was given time off for his wedding and honeymoon. What resulted when he returned was an even better storyline with The Shield and Authority, where both he and the returning Goldust fought for their jobs. They not only got their jobs back but won the Tag Team Championships just 8 days afterward.
