Lexa Valo Is ‘Grateful’ For Mercedes Moné Title Match, Wants Another One

Lexa Valo looks back on her encounter with “The CEO.”

As it stands, Mercedes Moné is the proud owner of nine championship belts, one of which she gained after her surprise appearance at the European Wrestling Association. Her arrival to EWA came on June 6 as a part of the promotion’s Prater Catchen event, which seemed set for an EWA Women’s Championship match between Mila Smidt and defending champion, Lexa Valo. That then naturally elevated to a three-way upon Moné’s entrance.

In a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Valo reflected on the opportunity to work with Moné as well as her genuine surprise when “The CEO” showed up to the event in Vienna, Austria.

“You kind of get a feeling that it could be her when I tell you, ‘Oh, we will add somebody to the match.’ But then we’re in the middle of nowhere in Europe,” Valo explained. “Nobody knows who I am. She’s not going to show up. The whole show was sold out before. She wasn’t even advertised, so it didn’t make any sense. Then the music hits and you’re still like, ‘Yeah, it’s a cool gimmick,’ and holy sh*t, there she is. Surreal, absolutely surreal. I, of course, spent so many hours of my life watching and re-watching her matches. I do have to say I’m one of those people, I watch everything that’s on the [WWE] Network. Every little piece of wrestling advice I can get my little paws on, I’m obsessed with that.”

Valo Is Inspired By Mercedes Moné

Ultimately, Moné defeated Valo and Smidt to become the new EWA Women’s Champion. Through it all, Valo attests that Moné emitted an inspiring passion that still has the European indie star feeling speechless.

“I got the feeling that she is truly into wrestling, that she’s truly a nice person, but seeing her work in person and getting to know her a tiny bit as a worker, incredible,” Valo said. “That was really inspiring because she didn’t have to do that. There was no reason. She was not like any anything you would imagine her to be. She was so cool, so down to earth. She was so happy to get any ideas in there. You could really feel the passion for wrestling. And that for me was something where I understood a bit more how blessed I am to be able to do this and get these opportunities because if somebody of her caliber is still appreciating that I should be freaking grateful again. I haven’t processed the whole thing. It is so cool. “

Rematch?

While grateful for the opportunity to wrestle Moné, Valo is equally as eager for a rematch against her, especially given that Valo, known as the “Queen of Sisu,” was the defending champion at the time.

“Absolutely [I’m down for a rematch]. Any day of the week. She’s so easy to work with. She means business, but I learned a lot. So whenever she decides and wants to come back. I’m here for it,” Valo said. “Let’s see. Maybe I’m lucky next time.”
