Jakara Jackson (Mara Sadè) Reveals Which Pop Stars Inspired Her Look

Mara Sadè opens up about her new look.

At WWE NXT Stand & Deliver, Mara Sadè (formerly known as Jakara Jackson) arrived to the ring in the spirit of a Las Vegas showgirl, green-feather headdress and all. Elsewhere, she typically takes inspiration from the music scene, specifically that of the 1990s. During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Sadè opened up about the vision behind a large portion of her ring gear.

“Music is a big part of my inspiration,” Sadè said. “I’ve gathered a lot of that from like 90s vibes, the group TLC, Aaliyah, of course. Janet Jackson’s a huge inspiration for me as well, just in terms of the fact that you can be badass and sexy all in one.

“I guess when it came to my pants, for example, I was definitely looking at the landscape to see what was different, what people weren’t doing,” she continued. “I was like I don’t see joggers. Yes, you see chaps, but of course we’re going to show a little skin, but I was just inspired by the baggy look with pockets and that urban type of vibe. And then of course, you want to show off your best assets, so the rest fell into place.”

Mara Sadè Lays Out Expectations For Her Free Agency

Earlier this month, Sadè officially became a free agent, with a number of independent wrestling appearances already confirmed. In a recent vignette, Sadè teased that this new chapter would particularly see as her as “the artist, the muse, and the auteur.”

When asked what else fans can expect from her, the former WWE NXT star declared that her ring gear game will still be “on point,” but better than before. In-ring wise, she plans to showcase her best self.

“When I tell you I’m hungry, I’m starving, like I said in my vignette, I’m not here to prove anything to anybody,” Sadè said. “I’m here to prove to myself that I can do, you know what I’m saying? Can do the most and be the best at this. Because anything I do, I’m going to put my all into. Point blank period, I’m not ever going to sleep on myself. So just expect big things from your girl, whether it’s in the fashion department, in the ring or outside. I’m out here.”

Long Live The Ginger Hair

In addition to her urban-style ring gear, fans often associate Sadè with ginger hair, which she frequently donned during her run in WWE NXT. In this new chapter, however, Sadè is shaking things up with blonde locks.

“The ginger was definitely a fave. I definitely believe it helped me pop out or stand out, but like I said, going into this new chapter, I just wanted a fresh start,” she told WrestleZone.

“I wanted to just reinvent myself and to be honest, when we feel like we’re transitioning, we change our hair. The blonde was just inspired by the fact that I saw this look. I was inspired online. I have this really amazing wig maker down in Miami. She literally has been the one to hook up the look since the jump. I saw this beautiful wig and it just spoke to me. I literally go off my intuition with a lot of things and like that just it was speaking to me. It felt right, so blonde it is.”
