Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up: Unholy Union Claim Gold In Glasgow, Tatum Paxley Crosses The Line, Kasey Catal Interview

Unholy Union (Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn) win the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Tatum Paxley crosses over into TNA Wrestling. The Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament begins. Kasey Catal chats with WrestleZone and more! Let’s break it down in this week’s edition of Women’s Wrestling Wrap-Up!

Unholy Union Claim Gold In Glasgow

Unholy Union pulled off a massive surprise at WWE Clash at the Castle when they unseated the dominant duo of Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.

Last weekend, WWE headed to the land of Glasgow, Scotland for the 2024 Clash at the Castle premium live event. In addition to their homecoming, Scotland-native Isla Dawn and Alba Fyre also received an opportunity to challenge for the WWE Women’s Tag Team titles. For this occasion, Dawn and Fyre faced the pairs of Shayna Baszler and Zoey Stark and the reigning titleholders, Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill.

The dynamic of the triple threat proved to be highly advantageous for Unholy Union. Toward the end of the contest, Belair and Cargill landed a double-team maneuver on Baszler. An opportune Unholy Union, however, intercepted before the duo could capitalize with a pinfall. With Cargill pushed out of the ring, and Belair held back by Fyre. Dawn then seized the moment to score a pinfall on Baszler for the win. As such, Unholy Union were crowned as the new WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Elsewhere on the card, Bayley successfully defended her WWE Women’s Champion against another Scotland native, Piper Niven. Looking ahead, Bayley will now defend her title against Nia Jax, the 2024 Queen of the Ring, at WWE SummerSlam.

Tatum Paxley Crosses The Line At TNA Against All Odds

As the partnership between WWE and TNA Wrestling strengthens, so does the probability of future crossovers.

Coming off her loss to NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez at NXT Battleground, TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace pivoted her attention to TNA Against All Odds. For this occasion, Grace laid out an open challenge for any talent, or any company. This challenge was ultimately answered by NXT’s Tatum Paxley.

Ever since her “friend” Lyra Valkyria lost the NXT Women’s Championship to Perez, Paxley has made it clear that her focus is centered on gold. That objective notably resurfaced at NXT Battleground. Paxley tried to steal the TNA Knockouts Championship from ringside as Grace and Perez battled in the ring. Unfortunately for Paxley, her theft attempt was thwarted by a returning Ash By Elegance (fka Dana Brooke) and Grace herself.

Five days later, Paxley emerged as the surprise challenger to Grace’s Knockouts Championship at TNA Against All Odds. Much like Battleground, Grace utilized her strength to take control of the matchup. This time, it paid off, as Grace sealed the win with a Juggernaut Driver.

With this win, Grace marked the 11th successful title defense of her current Knockouts Championship reign.

Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Begins

The road to AEW All In has officially begun.

On this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, the 2024 Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments kicked off with two intense first-round faceoffs. While PAC defeated Claudio Castagnoli in the men’s, Kris Statlander and Nyla Rose fought on the women’s side.

Despite Rose’s evident strength advantage, Statlander persevered to eventually score the win with a Tombstone Piledriver. Post-match, Statlander’s friend-turned-enemy Willow Nightingale revealed her plan to meet Statlander in the semi-finals after defeating Serena Deeb in her quarter-finals matchup on AEW Rampage.

As Statlander, Rose, Nightingale, and Deeb occupy the left side of the Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament bracket, the likes of Deonna Purrazzo, Hikaru Shida, Mariah May, and Saraya fill the right. Purrazzo will square off with Shida, while May battles her fellow Brit Saraya in the opening round.

The winners of the Men’s and Women’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournaments will move on to challenge for the AEW World Championship and AEW Women’s Championship, respectively, at AEW All In. The AEW Women’s Championship is currently held by Toni Storm, who will defend her title against Mina Shirakawa at Forbidden Door.
