MJ Jenkins seems poised to walk out on top at NWA 75.
The National Wrestling Alliance prepares to make more history this weekend. On August 26 and 27, NWA will celebrate a milestone anniversary as they host NWA 75. This year’s card will include several title matches and the return of the Burke Invitational Gauntlet. The Gauntlet will see ten women vying for a shot at the NWA Women’s Championship.
Amongst this year’s participants is MJ Jenkins, who first made her NWA debut wrestling Jennacide in the spring of 2022. Speaking with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, Jenkins explained her mindset heading into the historic show. The numbers may not be stacked in her favor, but Jenkins is confident that she will emerge victorious.
“The mindset that I am in right now is simply in it to win it,” Jenkins said. “It’s crazy that you said that. It was over a year ago that I made my debut, and I knew that I wanted to be so much better for the NWA. So, coming back and having this amazing opportunity, it was like the cherry on top. And this is going to be the anointment of MJ Jenkins. Hashtag ‘a whole lot of woman.'”
Biggest Threats
In analyzing the field of her competition, Jenkins was asked to pinpoint who she believes may pose the biggest threat to win the invitational.
“As far as a threat goes, I know that The WOAD has been tearing up the independent scene. I’ve never gotten to face her before, but I know what she is capable of. Now, also, Allysin Kay, you know, she is a former NWA Women’s Tag Team Champion, so I know going into this, there is already a lot of tough competition and a lot of women that are hungry. However, they just ain’t got that hunger like MJ,” Jenkins said. “So as tough as it will be, I am already prepared because as I said, this is my anointing, this is my cherry on top. This is something that I believe like I was like, ‘This is going to be me next year and this is what I want.’ It’s perfect for me.”
Going For The Gold
This year’s Burke Invitational Gauntlet will unfold on night one of NWA 75. The winner, of course, will then go on to challenge for the NWA Women’s Championship on night two. Before that title match happens though, reigning champion Kamille will defend the NWA Women’s Championship against Natalia Markova on night one. Whoever wins that bout, will then defend the title against the winner of the Burke Invitational Gauntlet the following night.
With a title shot on the line, MJ Jenkins explains what it would mean for her to hold the NWA Women’s Championship.
“This would mean that I am 120%, matter of fact, 200% a whole lot of woman. And not just that, I look at there is a huge, huge lineage of women that has held this championship, and even one woman that I really look up to a lot, Jazz. She was one of my early inspirations in wrestling, and I just know for me that would solidify me for myself. So, I know that this is something that will mark me and put me down in the history books of NWA. Not just that, in the history books of professional wrestling. So, this is something that I know was made for me.”
