Samoa Joe has a pretty simple answer for why his feud with CM Punk has lasting appeal.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with Samoa Joe ahead of the ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view. Joe will defend his ROH World Television Championship against Shane Taylor or Dalton Castle. The pair spoke about Joe’s next match, but they also looked back on his last one.
Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk took place in the semifinal round of the 2023 Men’s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament. The two have a history that dates back twenty years, and Punk never got a singles victory over Joe until this year. Fans are hopeful that another match follows, and Samoa Joe said the feud resonates because they have a great dynamic.
“I think it speaks to how much people enjoy me punching Punk in the face. It’s kind of the overwhelming motivation for most people to tune into the match because I have a real good habit of smashing a lot of different angles. I’ll give you a lot of looks. You know, most people will only give you one or two looks. I’ll go for the jaw, come over the temple. I’ll really lump them up.
“I think based on that, really, what it boils down to is that he has a very punchable face and I’m very good at punching it. You put those two massive, dynamic things together and people are bound to want to tune in and see what’s gonna happen.”
