Chad Gable has been feuding with the Intercontinental Champion, Gunther, for several weeks. He has now promised that he will be the one to take the championship away from The Ring General.
Last night on Monday Night Raw, Gable was in the main event. He challenged Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship. The leader of the Alpha Academy put on a tough fight. Despite all his efforts to take out Gunther, Gable was unsuccessful.
The Ring General managed to retain his title. This win also means that Gunther will be creating history by overtaking Honky Tonk Man as the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion.
After the match, in a post-show interview, Gable was asked about his current mental state after failing to capture the title yet again. The Alpha Academy leader mentioned that this will not be the last time he will be facing Gunther
Chad Gable also promised that he would be the one to dethrone him. He mentioned that while his gimmick allows him to have fun with the WWE Universe. But, at the same time, he needs to get serious as well, especially after the fact that Gunther made it personal by making his daughter cry.
“I swear to everybody and on myself and my career, that’s not the end. I’m taking the championship, that Intercontinental Championship, I want him to keep it as long as it freaking takes for me to get a rematch, because I am coming back for it, and I swear to God, I’m winning that championship.”
Gable claimed that The Ring General could hold on to the title as long as he wanted to. But when Gable receives a rematch, the title is going to be his.
WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard spoke with GUNTHER about his Intercontinental Championship reign approaching the all-time record mark.
GUNTHER said he doesn’t track statistics, but it’s still nice to be mentioned in those discussions.
“I mean, it’s great, yeah. I’m not a big stats guy myself when it comes to that, like most matches won, this, that, blah, blah, blah. It’s nothing really for me,” he noted, “but it’s very charming to be in those circles if that makes sense.”
