This week’s Stars in Progress tracks the best (and worst) of WWE Night of Champions, this week’s Monday Night Raw, Main Event, and the release of “The Best of Sting” on DVD and Blu-Ray.
STEP UP: Mark Henry
I think Henry stands to lose a lot less momentum by laying down for Rusev than Jack Swagger did after SummerSlam. He may gain momentum if the tease we saw on this week’s Main Event is any indicated. While Big Show vs. Mark Henry isn’t a PPV match I’m looking forward to seeing down the road – after all, we just saw this program less than two years ago – I’ll be glad to see either big man involved in something relevant. Sometimes losing actually means there are bigger, better things in your immediate future, and that’s why, tentatively, I’m giving Henry a step up this week.
STEP UP: Sting
I picked up the new “Best of Sting” Blu-ray release from WWE today. It’s heavy on the wrestling, light on the documentary, which will appeal to some and turn off others. I’ve seen most of the notable Sting matches from his career in WCW, but I really enjoyed getting to see some of those early moments with Warrior (called Rock back then), and first matches with Mike Rotunda, Ron Simmons and Ric Flair, most of which had been previously lost to Father Time. Even in the mid-80’s, where Sting admits he didn’t know anything about wrestling, he brought a lot to the ring despite a general lack of experience.
