Are We There Yet?

Damn, it feels good to be back! After more than two years away from this business, I started getting the itch. Just when you think you are out, you get sucked right back in. I may have been away, but that doesn’t mean I have not been watching. You might say I had a case of Déjà vu as of late. Now I know TNA moved Impact back to Thursdays, but to say I was excited to see two professional wrestling shows back on Monday night would be an understatement. You couldn’t help but cheer for TNA when they decided to go head to head with WWE’s Raw. It’s been proven time and time again that competition brings out the best in people. Were things going back to the way they were? Wait, what’s this? Ring of Honor has a 1 hour show on HDNet? Hmmmm. Now where have I seen this before? Two large wrestling companies battling it out on the same night and a low budget innovative brand on a smaller, less known cable channel. It’s as if we have turned back time.

I think most of you know where I am going with this and if you don’t, I recommend doing some research on the web. I would start by going to Google and typing in such keywords as WCW, WWF, ECW, Monday Night Wars, N.W.O, and/or Stone Cold Steve Austin. To me and fans alike, we call it the good ole days! Professional wrestling was at its peak. The WWE (WWF at the time) and WCW enjoyed their most popular and profitable days. As good as the product that the WWE/WCW put out, it was during that time when ECW came to the forefront. I get chills just thinking how awesome it was to be a wrestling fan during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s. Like all good things, it came to an end, which brings me to now. Is it possible we might be witnessing history repeat itself? I sure hope so and I bet most of you do as well.

The question remains, can WWE, TNA, and ROH capture lighting in a bottle twice? Personally speaking, I believe all 3 companies have the talent to make it happen. However, if we do get that lucky, how long will it last? I mentioned history repeating itself and if that holds true, Ring of Honor will go belly up financially after talent is pulled from there one by one. TNA then becomes so disorganized with a determined Vince McMahon looking to put them out of business. We certainly don’t want that to happen again. Besides, Jeff Jarrett can’t keep starting a wrestling company from scratch again, can he?

Whatever the case may be, things are starting to get interesting. This rollercoaster ride is just getting started. Some of the faces remain the same and new talent makes their way in. Who will be the next Rock or Goldberg? When will Ric Flair finally call it a day?  (He can stay as long as he wants to in my opinion. I love the Nature Boy!) Can Christopher Daniels, The Briscoe Brothers, or Austin Aires bring legitimacy to an up and coming promotion? So many questions and the answers will come over time. I just have one more question of my own. Are we there yet?
